Assam Special TET 2026 –Application Online Apply for LP/ UP TET Exam
The Government of Assam has officially announced the Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026 for both Lower Primary (LP) and Upper Primary (UP) levels. This special session is specifically conducted for Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar medium schools, adhering to the guidelines established by the NCTE.
Permanent residents of Assam who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for Paper I (Lower Primary), Paper II (Upper Primary), or both.
Success in the Special TET-2026 qualifies candidates to apply for elementary teacher positions in the state, provided they also fulfill the necessary academic and professional requirements mandated by NCTE norms.
Assam Special TET Details
Name of exam: Special Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) – 2026

Type of exam: Written Exam (OMR)
Duration of exam: 2 Hours 30 Minutes for each Paper. An additional 20 minutes time (per hour) will be there for visually impaired candidates.
No of papers: 2 Papers
- Paper-I: Lower Primary (LP)
- Paper-II: Upper Primary (UP)
Type of questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
No of questions: 150 MCQs for each Paper.
Negative marking: There is no negative marking .
Medium of exam: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo and English
Validity of TET certificate: TET Certificate has a lifetime validity.
Qualifying marks: A candidate is required to score 60% i.e. 90 marks out of 150 to qualify the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET). However, for SC/ST (Hills)/ ST (Plain)/ OBC/MOBC/ PWD (PH), there will be a relaxation of 5%. Thus, for these candidates, qualifying marks will be 83 out of 150 i.e. 55%.
Residentship: Candidate must be a permanent resident of the State of Assam.
Educational Qualification: Candidate must have minimum academic and professional qualification as per NCTE norms as follows:
Lower Primary TET (Classes I to V)
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B. El.Ed.)
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
OR
Graduation and two year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
Upper Primary TET (Classes VI to VIII)
Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)
OR
At least 50% marks in Graduation and B. Ed.
OR
At least 55% marks in Post Graduation or equivalent grade and three year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B. El. Ed).
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.A./B. Sc. Ed. Or
B.A. Ed/B. Sc. Ed. OR
Graduation with at least 50% marks and 1-year B. Ed.(Special Education)
Note: Minimum percentage of marks in graduation shall not be applicable to those incumbents who had already taken admission to the Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Elementary Education or equivalent course prior to the 29 July, 2011.
Relaxation: Relaxation up to 5% in the academic marks in HSSLC or Graduation shall be applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD(PH) to appear in Special Assam TET- 2026 (The degree of handicap in case of PH candidates should be minimum 40% and to be certified by the competent authority) both for Paper-I (LP Level) and Paper-II (UP Level).
