About Gauhati University PG Admission 2026
Gauhati University is one of the most prestigious universities in Northeast India and offers a wide range of postgraduate programmes across Arts, Science, Commerce and interdisciplinary disciplines. Every year, thousands of students apply for admission to various postgraduate departments under the university and its affiliated colleges.
For the academic session 2026-27, the university has introduced an online admission process through which candidates can submit their applications and appear in the Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGET). Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess a valid FYUGP/Graduate Degree with a minimum of 24 credits in the relevant subject for admission into traditional postgraduate programmes. Applicants should have studied the concerned subject as Major/Honours or Regular Course during their graduation.
For admission into interdisciplinary programmes, candidates must fulfill the programme-specific eligibility conditions prescribed by Gauhati University.
Special Provisions for Final Semester Students
Candidates who have appeared or are appearing in the 6th Semester BA, BSc, BCom or BVoc examinations in 2026 and are awaiting their final results are also eligible to appear in PGET 2026. Such candidates may be granted provisional admission if selected.
However, all provisionally admitted candidates must submit their final marksheet or grade sheet within seven days from the date of result declaration. Failure to submit the required documents within the stipulated period will result in cancellation of admission.
Candidates having backlog papers in earlier semesters may also apply and appear in the entrance examination. However, they must clear all eligibility requirements before final admission.
