The General stream requires a Master's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma of minimum two years' duration in any discipline, or a Bachelor's Degree in Law, Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or specified professional qualifications such as ACA/FCA, ACS/FCS, ACMA/FCMA or CFA. The Research, Actuary and Official Language streams have separate specialised educational requirements.
Educational Qualification
1. General Stream
- Master's Degree or Post Graduate Diploma of minimum two years' duration in any discipline; OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Law; OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; OR
- ACA/FCA from ICAI; OR
- ACS/FCS from ICSI; OR
- ACMA/FCMA from ICMAI; OR
- CFA from CFA Institute.
2. Research Stream
Applicants must possess a Master's Degree/Post Graduate Diploma of minimum two years' duration in relevant areas including Economics, Commerce, Business Administration, Econometrics, Quantitative Economics, Financial Economics, Mathematical Economics, Business Economics, Agricultural Economics, Industrial Economics, Business Analytics, Finance, Quantitative Finance, Mathematical Finance, Quantitative Techniques, International Finance, Business Finance, International and Trade Finance, Project and Infrastructure Finance, Agri. Business Finance, Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, Statistics & Informatics, Applied Statistics & Informatics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or Big Data Analytics.
A Master's Degree in Mathematics along with a one-year postgraduate diploma in Statistics or related subjects is also specified in the advertisement.
3. Actuary Stream
- Graduation from a recognized University/Institute; and
- Pass or exemption in all Seven (07) Core Principles subjects of the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) Examination.
4. Official Language (Rajbhasha) Stream
- Master's Degree in Hindi/Hindi Translation with English as a subject at Bachelor's Degree level; OR
- Master's Degree in Sanskrit/English/Economics/Commerce with Hindi as a subject at Bachelor's Degree level; OR
- Master's Degree in both English and Hindi/Hindi Translation from a recognized University/Institute.

The application fee is non-refundable. Candidates applying for different streams are required to submit separate online applications and pay the applicable fee for each application. A candidate can apply for a maximum of two streams for which he/she is eligible.
Selection Process
The PFRDA Officer Grade A selection process consists of three stages:
- Phase I – Online Screening Examination
- Phase II – Online Examination
- Phase III – Interview
Phase I Examination
Phase I consists of two papers carrying 100 marks each.

There is a 1/4th negative marking for each incorrect answer in Phase I. Candidates need to secure the prescribed cut-offs in individual papers as well as the aggregate cut-off to qualify for Phase II.
Phase II Examination
Phase II also consists of two papers carrying 100 marks each.
- Paper 1: English Descriptive Test to assess drafting skills – 100 marks, 60 minutes.
- Paper 2: Stream-specific objective examination – 100 marks, 40 minutes.
For Paper 2 in Phase II, there is 1/4th negative marking for incorrect answers. Candidates who qualify Phase II are shortlisted for the interview.
Phase III – Interview
Only candidates shortlisted after Phase II will be called for the interview. Candidates may opt for the interview in Hindi or English.
The final selection gives 85% weightage to Phase II marks and 15% weightage to Interview marks.
Salary and Pay Scale
The pay scale for Officer Grade ‘A’ is:
₹62,500 – 3,600(4) – 76,900 – 4,050(7) – 1,05,250 – EB – 4,050(4) – 1,21,450 – 4,650(1) – 1,26,100 over 17 years.
As stated in the advertisement, the present gross emoluments at the minimum of the scale, including applicable allowances and PFRDA's contribution towards NPS, are approximately ₹2,05,000 per month.
