Essential Qualification
- Candidates must have a good academic record and a Ph.D. degree in Economics, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Political Science, Development Studies and/or related subjects.
- A Master's Degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in the relevant subject from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of 8 years of teaching and/or research experience in an academic/research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College, Accredited Research Institution or Industry.
- Candidates should have a minimum of 7 publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals.
- A total research score of 75 is required as per the criteria prescribed under UGC Regulations 2018.
2. Assistant Professor

A. Centre for Undergraduate Studies
- A Master's Degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in Political Science, Sociology, Psychology and/or related subjects from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- Candidates must have qualified the UGC/CSIR NET or a similar UGC-accredited examination such as SLET/SET.
- Candidates who have been awarded a Ph.D. degree in accordance with the applicable UGC regulations may be exempted from the NET/SLET/SET requirement, subject to the prescribed conditions.
Ph.D. Exemption Conditions
Candidates registered for Ph.D. programmes before 11 July 2009 may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET subject to fulfillment of the prescribed conditions, including:
- The Ph.D. degree must have been awarded in regular mode.
- The Ph.D. thesis must have been evaluated by at least two external examiners.
- An open Ph.D. viva voce must have been conducted.
- The candidate must have published two research papers from the Ph.D. work, including at least one paper in a referred journal.
- The candidate must have presented at least two papers based on the Ph.D. work in eligible conferences/seminars.
These conditions are required to be certified by the Registrar or Dean (Academic Affairs) of the concerned University.
A Ph.D. obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 in the World University Rankings by QS, THE or ARWU may also qualify for the applicable exemption, subject to the notification.
B. School of Social Work
- A Master's Degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in Social Work from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- The candidate must have qualified UGC/CSIR NET or an equivalent UGC-accredited SLET/SET examination, subject to applicable exemptions.
- Candidates possessing a qualifying Ph.D. degree under the applicable UGC regulations may be exempted from the NET/SLET/SET requirement.
